About Tan y Gader
Tan y Gader is a 3 storey Georgian townhouse built in 1800 in the small market town of Dolgellau. The house, which we have lovingly restored, was the town's maternity home between 1939 and 1974 and around half the town appears to have been born here! We are no 21 on the Dolgellau town trail as having a listed round window of particular interest. We pride ourselves on offering something a little bit different to the usual B&Bs – Come and stay for a celebration, girly weekend or romantic break, set off from us on amazing walks, cycle trails, visit independent shops, sample all the history or relax and we can arrange visiting aromatherapy /massages. Just let us know the type of holiday you would like & we can customise it to suit your requirements. Have an idea for something we haven't thought of ?-drop us a line we would love to hear from you.
We are located at the southern end of the Snowdonia Nation park and surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes and the wonderful Mawddach estuary which leads out to the sea & the pretty seaside town of Barmouth, which makes it an ideal place to stay and enjoy walking, climbing cycling and kayaking. Dolgellau is tucked under the Cader Idris range from which the house takes its name. We are proud to boast of over 2oo heritage listed buildings (the most in Wales) The town layout is medieval in parts with narrow roads, which at times can mean limited parking, despite this there are usually spaces to be found next to the house & if not there are other either free & paid spaces in the town.We think this all adds to the quaint & utterly unique atmosphere of the town. We have many amazing places to eat just 2 mins walk away at night & during the day, & we are happy to send recommendations & arrange bookings. We also have many lovely independent places to shop for that special gift to take back home.
The lovely Portmeirion village is a short drive away where the fantastic annual festival no 6 is held, Also in December (2-4) it is a great venue for their annual Christmas markets.
Our rooms are tastefully and originally decorated with quirky little touches, whilst retaining the beautiful Georgian features. We offer 3 double bedrooms each with its own private bathroom, a pretty dining room and a comfortable guest lounge. We have safe & secure cycle storage, places to dry out your wet walking clothing and a south facing secluded back garden which guests can enjoy on the warm sunny days.We also offer locally sourced breakfast ingredients and cater for all dietary requirements, we just ask you advise us when booking.
